Laurie Halse Anderson For me, writing historical fiction requires much more organization and lots of outlining. My YA books are written more from gut feelings, from an emotional center, because I don't have to worry about being true to historical facts.

Hi Laurie. I am a sophomore in high school. I'm a very big fan. I aspire to become an amazing author such as yourself; I first read your book, Wintergirls, when I was in 9th grade. It inspired me immensely. I try as hard as possible to write like you, but I'm not as quite good as you are. Could you please explain your process and how you get some of your ideas? Do you research a lot for your books, or do you find yourself basing them off personal experiences? I noticed as a young writer, I push myself towards either really heavy topics or something extremely lighthearted.
