Goodreads asked R.S.J. Gregory:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

R.S.J. Gregory Read everything, even books that you wouldn't normally pick up. Also, read Wired for Story by Lisa Cron. It's indispensable. Depending on what genre you intend to write for, you will need to make sure that you are well versed on what is currently out there, what is doing well, and what is not. What style do you want to write in? First person or third person?
I also recommend you attend a creative writing course, join a writing group and find yourself a critique buddy. But other things you will need, which can't be taught, is perseverence, patience, plenty of elbow grease, a thick skin and above all else, stories to tell.
