If there isn't a fourth Blackthorn and Grim novel optioned by the publisher - will you consider self-publishing?
Juliet Marillier
Good question. This is something I've certainly considered. I think it's probable that my Australian publisher would be happy to go ahead with another book in the series, but for the US publisher it's too soon to tell whether they are selling well enough. If either or both publishers said no to more B&G I would discuss the possibilities with my agent, and I am sure self-publishing (or going with a small independent press) would come into that discussion. However, I'm trying to write book 3 in a way that works either as the last book of the series OR as a good stepping off point for more. That's one reason it's taking longer than I'd like!

My favorite of your works is "Flame of Sevenwaters." I was burned at age 2 and have scars on my face and right hand, so I relate to Maeve a lot. I needed surgery so that I could use my hand. I've dealt with people's cruelty as well as my own self-doubt. I wanted to ask if you had done research about burns and medieval treatments when writing about Maeve. Was Liadan's treatments based in historical medical practices?

I'm currently reading (and loving!) Daughter of the Forest, and I was wondering if you could tell me how you pronounce Padraic? I asked a couple Irish friends online, but they had different answers, so I assume there might different ways to say it depending on the region. One of them said it was 'Porrick/Porrig' and the other said 'Pawdrick'. Is it one of those, or something else? Thanks!
