I'll admit that I have yet to read Conversion, but I am fascinated because its like the modern re-telling of the Salem Witch Trials. I did read Penguin Book of Witches and loved it. I have been fascinated with the witch hunts and trials since I was a little kid, so I curious if you ever found something out that made you feel like you should not be researching witches and witch trials? Thank you!

Hi Dustin, thank you so much for reading. I have a pretty strong conviction that nothing in history should be off limits to anyone willing to put in the time to study it. Circumstances like the witch trials, which are essentially about power, deserve our attention all the more. Also witch trials are one of the few passages in history in which regular people are at the center of the drama. That's one reason you won't find me writing about kings and queens. I'm very interested in exploring stories about regular people trying to make sense of an insensible world.

I recently finished The Daughters of Temperance Hobbs and loved it! Do you plan on continuing to write about Connie and her new daughters? I've also thought that a book about Emma from Conversion would be so interesting, maybe her experiences of navigating college with her gifts.

I very much enjoyed your first novel and have become an avid historical fiction reader. My attraction to your book was that my brother-in-law is a HOWE and has traced his ancestry to Elizabeth Howe. Thus, the possible link between you and him brought be to your writing. I hope you continue to do such good and interesting work for a long time to come. Have you followed up on your geneology on the Howe side?
