Barton... Several of my friends have trouble with confidence (I sometimes do too) in general. So I thought I'd ask a few writers this very straight forward, open question... What shakes your confidence? In the realm of writing, or otherwise. What tends to foster it? It would be good to get a poet's perspective. Thanks.

seeing the world. it is hard enough being alone, alone. so, sometimes, as a writer, you put something out there...and someone takes it. takes it on vacation. and it's something you want to have happen, at first. maybe they have friends and maybe there are other languages that your language speaks to. but you can't help, suddenly, wanting the smallness of your world to retain its shape. can't help wanting it back. but it is momentary. it passes. the shaking stops and you can pick up some framed photos and call out to your dog.
