Hello sweet lady! So, I am wondering, during the course of your writing, have you ever had a character or storyline that went to a place that you didn't want to go, but knew you had to? I am always curious if an author has ever had a story or character go somewhere that they never thought they would go, but it told itself. If so, do you mind sharing? As always, thanks so much for telling your stories.

I could kinda say that all my stories are like this. I don't have them blocked out or outlined so chapter to chapter, scene to scene, I don't know what's going to happen until it happens.
Things that surprised me were when [spoiler! spoiler!] Tack lifted Tyra onto her desk in MOTORCYCLE MAN. I knew he was a rough guy who thought he could get away with anything, but that made me uncomfortable. In real life, if I was Tyra, I would have lost my mind and no matter how magnetic he was, would definitely take issue with it and might even leave and never come back.
I feel the physicality of that is very Tack, he made me keep that scene in even when I wanted to change it, soften it. But even if it is him and Tyra was more attuned to that than even me :-) it still made me uncomfortable.
I also had [more spoilers!!!!] no idea what was happening with Sam in HEAVEN AND HELL. Both Kia and Sam kept their secrets from me and more than ever in writing a book, I had no idea what would happen next. But my sense was that the book was about Sam helping Kia battle her demons. When it turned the way it did, I was surprised, and crazy-eager to keep writing so I could see what was twisting Sam's mind to behave the way he did and get Kia to a point she could help him with it.
And it's safe to say I had absolutely no idea any of THE GOLDEN DYNASTY would be as brutal and intense (and beautiful) as it turned out. I LOVED writing that book, it also scared me. There is a ton of stuff in that book that took me where I said I'd NEVER go but I went there. I might be proudest of that book because I loved how it turned out and there's a good deal of difficult stuff to get through.
I could go on but those are the ones that first spring to mind!
