First, read. Read many books in the area you are interested in. Find what you like about them and don't like. Then write. Then read what you wrote as if you were a reader. Then rewrite. Wash, rinse, repeat until you are satisfied. Then have someone else you trust read it. When everyone is satisfied, go for it!
