I'm digging this story but I've been interrupted a few times, and I've gotten a little confused. I really don't want to start over. So I now get that there is three kinds of Clans, Reach, City and Tribal. But what is a Reach exactly? I had originally thought it was a town or city, but I guess it's like a clan hold or mini-kingdom?

It's basically a colony--when a group of people from a city set out to found a new city, and are supported economically, militarily, etc by the city they set out from, and maintain ties and obligations to that city.
