The answer is: Not really. This book drew upon memories that go farther back -- growing up in the South and visiting relatives who lived among the marsh-fringed islands of the Georgia coast, and my early career experiences as a newspaper journalist.
However, I would love to write a science- or NASA-based thriller in the future. It would be a lot of fun.
