Ev asked Jack Gantos:

My students love your voice in your writing. You have a sense of humor that appeals to all ages. We were curious, how did you find your writer's voice? Our class is working on that now and we would love to hear from you! - Miss Ciaburri's 4th Grade Class

Jack Gantos "Voice" is a key element in writing. It is part of the "craft" of building good characters. I find that "voice" really shows up well when writing dialog, so I think young writers should often make their characters speak in their stories. It is very powerful when a reader 'hears' the character's voice.
When Joey Pigza hollers out, "Can I get back to you on that?" --then you really hear his voice at work. Its a snappy line of dialog for a very snappy character. Thanks and good luck. jg
