Where do you get the ideas for your characters? Are any of your characters really you or have your traits?

I get my ideas mostly from the world that is churning around me. I'd say all the characters have some of my traits, but the books that have me as a main character such as DEAD END IN NORVELT--then that would be about my life and all I had to do was open my eyes and start writing. Thanks, J
