Cintia
Cintia asked Jennifer Ellision:

Hi, my name is Cintia and I'm from Argentina. Being a writer is what I want the most in this world, nothing makes me happier than writing, but I'm more and more frustrated with each passing day, because I've been blocked for 3 years. And it is not that I have an unfinished story. I have NOTHING AT ALL. A blank page in front of me, that only makes me sadder... Is there a way to overcome this? How do you handle it?

Jennifer Ellision Hi Cintia! Writer's block can be super frustrating, so I'm sorry you're experiencing this. I've dealt with my own in a variety of ways depending on the situation. Here are a few suggestions for you.

1) Freewrite. Maybe put on some music on and write whatever comes into your mind
2) Try some writing prompts. Maybe it'll spark some inspiration for a wholly original work or maybe you'll like the prompt so much that it takes on a life of its own for you. Either way, you can stretch your writing muscles.
3) Bounce a story back and forth between a friend or two-- continuing a story between you may turn out to be fun and it's a little less pressure to get from Point A to Point B.
4) Consider turning off that internal editor and diving into NaNoWriMo next month. I've done it a couple of times myself and it can really help you push past a block.
5) Read a book that's totally different from what you're writing. OR read something in your genre. I find that sometimes reading a good book inspires me to want to write the best thing that *I* can.

Above all, find what works for you. For some people, that's writing every day. For others, they need a break inbetween or a week on and a week off. Whatever it is, don't beat yourself up for not doing what works for others. You can do it!

Good luck.
