Cornelia Funke:
Hi Cornelia. I found out about your books after I saw the movie and learned that it was indeed based on a book (which the best movies are ;-)). I read Inkheart a couple times, and wanted to know more about Mo and Meggie's adventures with the Inkworld and was excited when I discovered it was the first in a trilogy. My question for you is where did you get the inspiration for the world and characters (Dustfinger Basta)?
Cornelia Funke
Dustfinger just showed up - he is one of the easiest characters I ever wrote, it was always so clear who he is. Paul Bethany said a similar thing to me, when he played him: He is so easy, Cornelia. He just wants to go home:) That he plays with fire I realized when I was watching fire eaters on a medieval market in Germany.
As for Basta - I find it slightly worrying how many of my readers like him. For me he is a character i pity. A broken thing, cruel and not very bright, and very eager to follow orders.

So I'm back again with another question! I'm sorry (& grateful <3) but there's just one tiny thing I want to know.I'm sure since you're such a terrific writer, you must be an avid reader.I know it's weird, but do/did you feel protective about a book you closely connected with and wished to keep it only for yourselves, feeling as if sharing it was the end of all things ?

Hello, I'm a huge fan of your work and unlike most other people here, the Mirrorworld series is my favorite :) I just wanted to ask tweo things about book 4: 1. Is there going to be more 'screen time' for Jacob and Fox in book 4? They are my favorite characters and I felt quite sad when they weren't that much in the Golden Yarn compared to the other parts. 2. How is the writing on book 4 go?
