(view spoiler)[I read 'The Thief Lord' when I was 12 in a single sitting and instantly fell in love! It was so enchanting and magical, and made me feel like I had fallen into the story myself. My question has to do with the 'Inkheart' series, though. After everything that Meggie and Farid went through, what made you decide that they weren't right for each other in the end after all? Hi Ariana,
I think this is the question I have been asked more often than any other about a character!:) To me the answer felt so obvious that I admit i didn't expect this reaction from my readers!
For me Farid is not really in love with Meggie. Farid is in love with love. I cannot imagine him be faithful to one girl and I wanted a lover for Meggie who is not only a lover, but also her best friend. Farid's best friends are Dustfinger and the fire. He doesn't want girls to be his friends (sadly I think he is quite a macho there) I am currently writing a new Ink-book set 5 years later and found Farid traveling the villages of Liguria leaving at least one broken heart behind in each one. He is quite famous by now, both for his fire and for his skills with the girls:) Meggie meanwhile got engaged to Doria- I just wrote that chapter- and I am very glad to see that she found both, love and friendship wrapped in one.

Hi Cornelia. When I began to read the inkheart trilogy I never realized how much I could love a book. Inkheart made me into the shy bookworm I am today. I was just wondering did you have an ending planned out for the stories or did it just sort happen while you're writing? Thanks for even reading this.
