Joan Hutchingsc asked Linwood Barclay:

I came across No Time For Goodbye in the staff room left with a note that said read this. One of the best books I have read in a very long time and I read a lot. I looked you up and see you were born the year after me, got me thinking how does one person who like most of us feel we have a book in us get started on a project and then come up with such a simple but ingenious plot? Jo Southampton UK

Linwood Barclay Thanks for the kind words, Jo. You've asked the big question: Where does such an idea come from? That, and where do elephants go to die, are tough ones. The idea for No Time came to me at 5 a.m. I woke up, and there it was. Of course, it had to be developed, but the original idea of a girl who wakes up and finds her family missing just appeared. And every year, I hope there will be another idea that just appears, so that I can write that year's book. All the best, Linwood
