I think the best thing about being a writer is being able to influence someone else. Michael Hyatt calls this "generosity." I've got some things to share, and my day-to-day audience is small. However, through a book or an article, I can reach a larger audience.
Just the other day, I found out that I had been cited for the first time in another author's book. I'm not exactly sure if he liked what I wrote, yet it was still humbling to know that he had read my work and decided to use it. Hopefully, someone reading his book will search out for that piece that I wrote and be influenced by it.
