Cintia asked Melanie Dickerson:

Hi! I'd love to read your books but I wasn't able so far, because they are not sold in my country. I just wanted to ask, how do you handle writer's block? From an aspiring writer who suffers a serious case of blocking...

Melanie Dickerson Hi, Cintia! So sorry about the books not being available in your country. :-( As for writer's block, one way to handle it is by talking out your story with a friend who might be willing to throw out some ideas about what should happen next in the story. Sometimes just by talking about the characters and the plot, it will help you think of the next scene, which will break you out of your block. Sometimes if I'm blocked, I might need to summarize the scene I'm working on with a sentene or two and just move on to what's supposed to happen after that. Also, sometimes I just force myself to write! Even if I know what I'm writing will probably not end up in the final draft, if I force myself to keep writing, it helps me get past the blocked feeling. And if my writer's block is caused by just feeling distracted by the internet or what's going on at home, I will go to the library or a restaurant to write. Something about being in a public place forces me to concentrate and get the words down.
I hope that helps!
