Dave Cullen
My next book will be "Soldiers First," for HarperCollins. In a nutshell:
The tumultuous story of two closeted gay soldiers, whose quest for love and freedom paralleled the torment of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. A love story and a soldier's story — at war.
It began 14 years ago, when I spent half a year with 3 closeted gay captains in Colorado Springs, and wrote a huge feature about them for Salon (changing their names and hiding their identities.) I've been following them ever since, which is kind of an unusual endeavor. I'm not just interviewing them about their lives, I'm watching their lives unfold.

Dave Cullen:
I went to your session at the LA Book Festival ~10 years ago, when I was 6.5 yrs and dozens of interviews into my book re: the then-biggest California wildfire. I wondered: would I ever finish? And then you said it took you 10 years to publish Columbine. That normalized my experience and kept me going. The Fire Outside My Window launched on the 10-year anniversary of California's historic Cedar Fire. Thank you!

I just watched Dave Cullen: Lessons of Columbine at Elmhurst College and I was bothered by one of your answers. Because you were wrong. You claimed there's no mention of the word bullying nor any synonyms for it in their journals. What about this? "I know I will die soon, so will you and everyone else. maybe will we be lucky. I'll get revenge soon enough. fuckers shouldn't have ripped on me so much huh!"

I am not sure I have a,question exactly but more.of a observation. I have too much to write to write it in the space you provide. I apologize. I wrote a,status update regarding you, your book and what you believe three days ago. It is impossible to be as concise as yiu require. I wish I had more room. I am truly sorry?
