What motivates you to write these (amazing) books?

Jonathan Stroud Well, even as a small kid I had an itch to write (and draw... to make stuff, in other words). I love hearing great stories, and when I do I have a strong, irrational desire to invent stories of my own - it's continuing a conversation with great books of the past.

I love your alternate versions of London, both in the Bartimaeus books and in Lockwood & Co. Are there real places that inspired the fantasy London? That is, if I ever visit the UK, are there places where I could feel like I was in Nathaniel's or Lockwood's world?
