What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Janice Kaplan Always think about your reader. When I was editor of Parade, I would sometimes ask a writer, "Why should anyone read this?" I often got the reply, "It's intrinsically interesting." Never believe that! You have to make your reader care about the subject as much as you do. With "The Gratitude Diaries," I felt passionately about the subject, and I hope that passion reaches out to readers to feel the same.
