I was greatly enthralled by your book "Between Shades of Grey". It's a very rare occurrence ; but, i wished the pages would go on and on, i wished the story would me through Lina's life, through her survival and recovery-- that's how tethered to her i was.Thank you for such an inspiring book. Question--Is "Between Shades of Grey" based off of real experiences? And if so, might i ask whose?

Hi Anne!
Thank you so much for reading "Between Shades of Gray." I'm so happy that you wanted the story to continue! :-)
Yes, the book is based on a group of Lithuanians who were deported to the Laptev Sea. They shared their experiences with me and I fictionalized the account and created additional scenes for the novel.
Again, thank you!!

HI RUTA . I love your books , I have read all of them . I love historical Fiction . I have a Polish and Ukrainian Background . My grandmother and grandfather had to leave their homeland which was Ukraine and Poland. My grandmother was from Lviv and i enjoyed seeing that in Salt and the sea. My question is what is your cultural background and why did you decide to write about that time period ?

Hi Ruta! My name is Alexa and your book has become such a major part in my life! It has sparked my interest in historical fiction and I even got both my parents to read it! My question is, where did you find your beginning inspiration for hidden history? Did you enjoy history back in school or was it mainly just your father's past that gained your interest? Thank you for your amazing novel!

Hello Ruta Sepetys! I am loving your new book Salt to the Sea! My English class assignment right now is to read a historical fiction book so I heard of your new book and decided to read it. I was so excited to start reading it because I had read Between Shades of Grey and I was in love with it! I was so happy to hear that you had written another historical fiction book. One question I have is who is Alfred?
