Goodreads asked W.R. Cummings:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

W.R. Cummings If you love to write, then write. Don't ever let someone else's opinion stop you from doing what you love. It's okay to let constructive criticism mold you as a writer, but don't let it hinder you. If you start getting too many opposing opinions, step back and remember the heart of YOUR story.

NEVER submit a first draft. Never, never, never. It's a pile of poo.

Submerse yourself into the world of writing so that you're constantly learning. Even if you think you know everything about writing/grammar/plot structure, you don't. With each year that passes, you'll learn more and become better at what you do. If you want to be successful, knowledge is your greatest asset.
