Goodreads asked E.L. Mendell:

How do you get inspired to write?

E.L. Mendell Inspiration comes in different ways. Often times it comes from music, but sometimes I'll catch sight of an abnormality from the corner of my eye, and I look at it, finding it was not abnormal, but what I thought I saw gives me an idea and I scribble it down for later use, (many parts throughout the Eysheus Saga are from such moments). Other things that cause me to write are strange characteristics in people I meet. Personality quirks I find fascinating. Quite a few of my stories were created merely to house a character I created. Like Malakavel; I created him and decided he needed a story, and so his life is now being built around the man I made.
This, dear reader, is how I acquire the inspiration to write. It does not come by force; it simply comes when the world shifts at the right moment.
