Goodreads asked Niall Teasdale:

How do you get inspired to write?

Niall Teasdale Getting inspired to write is not usually a problem. Stopping ideas from popping into my head while I'm supposed to be working on the next one in a series is the problem.

I write down ideas in my list of plot ideas, and then I drag them out once in a while and see whether I can make them work. Sometimes not. Sometimes it takes a couple of goes: Aneka took three or four tries to get to where she is now.

On a more general basis, I write before I like it so being inspired to sit down and write is not usually a problem. Sometimes stopping is. On my "2 week break from writing over Christmas" one year I wrote 20,000 words.
