I had the idea for Maximilian and Carlotta Are Dead for quite a while. It came out of my own experiences growing up in the San Joaquin Valley and also from my experiences in Latin America. Originally, it was to be about the Tommy character, but in the end Tommy became a character who is mentioned but never appears.
