Goodreads asked Laurel McHargue:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Laurel McHargue Writer's block? Bah, humbug!

Open your eyes. Look at something around you. Anything. Now write about it. Or open a book and write down the first sentence you read. Let your mind fill in what comes next and write for 5, 10, 15 minutes. Pick a random verb, noun, adjective (it helps to have a list/bucket of each, or friends to shout them out for you). Now write for 15 minutes including each of the words. Take a walk. Breathe deeply. Now get back to work.

There are countless writing prompts out there to get you through a stagnant period. Find one. See if you can incorporate what you write into a bigger project.
