Linda Hill
Linda Hill asked Tracy Chevalier:

I've just read The Last Runaway with my reading group which was universally enjoyed along with all your books. We debated what your next topic might be and wondered about the industrial revolution. Have you decided yet which era will host your next novel?

Tracy Chevalier Ah, the Industrial Revolution, now that would be interesting!

But that's not what I'm doing. My next is a retelling of Othello for the Hogarth Shakespeare Project (a number of other authors including Margaret Atwood, Anne Tyler, and Howard Jacobson are also retelling Shakespeare plays). I'm setting Othello on a 1970s elementary school playground in a suburb of Washington. Othello is a diplomat's son who joins a sixth grade in an all-white school. Writing it is taking me right back to my childhood.

After that I am setting a novel at Winchester Cathedral - probably in the 1930s, but I'm toying with the idea of setting it at different times. Maybe I should add in a section on the Industrial Revolution!
