Does the desire to remain historically accurate ever conflict with the need to appeal to a modern audience?
Hi Douglas. Interesting question. As I said in a previous answer, I always stick to the history where we know it. But, I am aware that my interpretation of events is very much influenced by the fact that I am a 21st century woman. In years to come, writers and scholars will re-examine the period and probably my work – and have a different take. I also think it’s important not to consciously write for a particular audience, just to write the best you can.
