I recently read The Orphan Train and was taken with the depth of detail you created. I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of the store and how Vivian came to know her abilities through that work. As one who sews, I also enjoyed, though pitied, those women in the "sweat shop." I wonder what elements of your own background you merged into your fiction? Or do details in this novel come entirely from research?

Our book club just finished reading and discussing Orphan Train. One of the discussion questions was about the significance of Molly Ayer's name. We were able to figure out how "Molly" fit in but had difficulty in "Ayer." I said "Ayer" means "yesterday" in Spanish. Molly explores her past and her tribe's past and acts as the catalyst for Vivian's exploration of her own past. Is my connection valid?
