I just heard an interview by the author. The story is not true (the characters), but the novel is based on historical events and extensively researched. The author also traveled to Armenia for the novel (his ancestry).

No, this is a work of historic fiction. Read the author's comments in the Epilogue and Notes at the end of the book.
