asked:
I'm a little confused by the synopsis. Can someone explain to me what the book is about in a simple way? To my understanding, it sounds like a pedo taking children to a secret place and Victoria discovering this secret place. Then somehow time jumps forward and she's an adult with a son which Charlie has taken. Am I correct?

No, not really. There's no child molesting - the kidnapper honestly thinks he's helping the kids, but doing so by taking them to Christmasland erases much of their emotional stability and empathy, and they turn into (eternally gleeful) monsters.
Fair warning though, there is sexual assault and rape of adults; though it's not really detailed, it is openly stated to have occurred.

There are most supernatural elements in play. Vic has a knack for finding things and Manx takes children in his old Rolls Royce to a place called Christmasland. One day, Vic goes looking for trouble and finds her way to Charlie Manx.

You're not alone in being confused. I think the author was confused, too, and tried to beef it up by throwing as many different disturbing elements into the story as he could think of. It didn't work. You've got a troubled teen, a weird villain, a scary henchman, foreshadowing in the "vegetable patch" at a hospital, followed by theft of a corpse post-autopsy, hypnotic gas, Christmas perverted, narrow escapes, teleportation, a tragic romance (that stretches out interminably over the years), insanity, addiction, spooky phones, spooky cars, mutilation, a desecrated church, an animal being killed...shall I go on? This novel had a very Peter-Straubian quality. It's like the objective isn't really to tell a story, just to give you indigestion and nightmares. Do the best you can with it.
