Lena asked Mary E. Pearson:

Who's on the cover of TKOD because it makes sense for it to be Lia but at the same time, she's wearing the pink flower crown that Lia bought for Pauline? Plus, I'm pretty sure you said Lia had dark hair and Pauline was a brunette.

Mary E. Pearson Yes it is Lia! And yes, she is wearing a pinkish flower garland. As I often tell readers, the cover is one artist’s interpretation of the book. The cover purpose is largely to give a “feel” of what is inside—an atmosphere and a mood. Rarely, if ever, does a figure on the cover of a book match the one I’ve conjured in my head based on the words I’ve read. How ever YOU imagine what the character looks like, IS what they look like. In The Kiss of Deception, I only say that Lia has dark hair, and that Pauline is blond. Beyond that are a lot of possibilities! I ADORE the art on these covers. I think the artist did an excellent job of conveying the mood of these books. Love them! (and trust me, I haven’t always loved all of my covers) But even I have a slightly different character imagined in my head than what the cover shows.
