Goodreads asked Werner A. Lind:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Werner A. Lind I've only written one novel (as opposed to short story); and it was originally published in 2004, so it isn't very recent. But the germ of the idea goes even further back, to an article I read in the Nov. 18, 1977 issue of Christianity Today, in which the author discussed, among other things, the Christian symbolism inherent in vampire fiction such as Dracula. As both a serious Christian believer and a charter Dark Shadows fan, that was a fascinating topic for me; and I was struck by the idea for a premise and basic plot that would, I thought, symbolically convey the Christian gospel message in an even more direct and basic way. A few years later, I first set pen to paper and began a 20-year process of trying to do just that!
