Violet asked Huntley Fitzpatrick:

Hi Huntley! I just finished reading MLND and I had a couple of questions. My first is what did Jase ever see in Lindy? She sounds a little crazy and I wouldn't think Jase would go for someone who's dramatic. My second question is what do you think are Sam and Jase's favorite things about each other? Thanks!

Huntley Fitzpatrick Hi Violet!

What great questions!

I thought about that for a bit while writing the story and including both Jase and Samantha's "previous experiences". I think Jase liked Lindy for several reasons 1)He has a little bit of a rescue complex 2)she was spontaneous and fun 3)They had lively conversations because he never knew what to expect from her 4) when you are first dating, I think, you 'try on' various people to figure out what you are really looking for. I think Lindy's drama intrigued Jase until he saw the costs of that. It's one of the reasons he was able to really appreciate the relative non-drama with Samantha. I think Sam liked Michael Kristoff for some of the same reasons. As for their favorite things about one another, I know Sam loves Jase for so many reasons, but top of the list would be his kindness, his open-heartedness--contrasted to her own often cold and confusing home. I also think she is able to relax and stop trying to be perfect with him. As for Jase's feelings about Sam--I know he appreciates her sense of humor, and also, she is able to be the calm center of the storm, and to really appreciate his crazy family--which is something of utmost importance to him. I also think they just "get" one another--and everyone needs that.

Thank you again for taking the time to ask your wonderful questions.

Warmly,

Huntley
