Goodreads asked Gary Kemble:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Gary Kemble Don't give up.

Every writer finds their own path to publication. For some it seems relatively easy (although if you dig deeper you usually find it wasn't as quick or easy as you initially assumed) and others toil away for years. In my case, the gap between my first novel-length project doing the rounds and the publication of my debut novel Skin Deep was about 12 years.

Read and write every day. Writers write, and writers read. If you have a bad day and can't find time to sit down and add words to your project, at least jot down some notes, so you can keep your head in the story.

Don't beat yourself up when things aren't going your way. I aspire to write every day but there have been periods in my life when I've gone months without writing. Believe in yourself and work towards creating time in your life to write.
