This is a good question, since it is exactly what I have been dealing with since finishing Undead Kelly. I have been playing around with a number of different ideas for my next novel, and even got as far as writing the first paragraph on one or two - but I just couldn't get excited about them and was facing writing as being a painful chore. So, I pulled back and decided not to commit, just to keep my mind open and see what would come. And so eventually, finally, an idea came one night just before bed (goodbye sleep) that caught my attention - and so novel number two is under way.
Different things work for different people - for me it was wait for inspiration, since I won't sit and write if I'm not excited.
