Part of it might have been because it appears Julian has survived through life buying into the stereotype that elitist communities are derived from wealth and power - which we learn is often a facade and not true. Monied families have probably given him permission and/or money to do what he loves - and Bunny's family appears to foot the bill. He might have even been doing a favor for someone by letting Bunny into the program. Richard might have been the "real" or rightly belonging member - academically, intellectually and in all ways - of the family (even tho he was lower class) - and that is why Julian let him into the group. Unfortunately, instead of balancing it out, it changed the chemistry of the group and things started to change.(less)
