How do you get inspired to write?

S.J. Lomas A lot of my ideas come from dreams and are then fleshed out through incidents in my real life. For example, I'd had a vivid and strange dream when I was in college. I knew it'd be great in a novel, but I didn't know what that novel might be. I held on to that idea for years. Then, when I read A Crack in the Line by Michael Lawrence, I suddenly realized that the dream from years ago should be part of a young adult novel and the ideas just started tumbling out like mad.
