In my opinion, the movie is similar in atmosphere at times, but the book is infinitely better. Plus I don't think that neither Keira Knightley, nor James McAvoy, nor Romola Garai were good fits for their roles (and I watched the movie before reading the book so that really is saying something).

The book is spectacular compared to the movie, definitely make time to read it.

Always read the book first. Movies in general can not give you what a book can, even more so if the book is so beautifully written as this one.

I loved the movie and I found the book extremely boring.
I think it is a good book to read in a book club because there are many things to discuss and analyze.
But if you read it for your own pleasure, the book is extremely dull.
i think the last part of the book (I mean the last 10 pages) are really good and make you see the book from a new perspective and, I think, this is why most people here say they loved it and stuff but the book in itself is very very very boring)

This novel is on my list of best books I've ever read. I have it in hard back and hope to get it signed by the author one day. The movie was okay, but the power of the ending is spoiled for someone who has seen the movie. And the shame is, the ending in the movie did not hold the power that was there in the novel. As much as I love this book, I would not read it twice because the reveal at the ending is what makes it so powerful.

went into the movie with high hopes and left a bit underwhelmed. But yes, absolutely read the book if you haven’t already. It’s layered, emotional, and the writing just pulls you in. Also, if you're into watching adaptations or lesser-known indie films after reading, I’ve been using Freecine
lately—it’s got a surprising mix of titles and actually helped me discover a few adaptations I hadn’t heard of before.

The book blew my mind off. I would rate it as one of the best (if not THE best) I've ever read. I haven't watched the movie, but the book is a must for anyone who likes literature based on incredible characters, drama, and unexpected plot twists.
