Hello again I've recently seen an article on fb about how Ariel would look if she'd evolved in different ocean environments. I was just wondering if Nere and friends could survive in say the midnight zone or the arctic ocean? I wondered if Nere could breathe fresh water too? (not that there are any clean lakes in her world but I'm just curious)

Polly Holyoke Hi Jinky, I had to run this one by my science experts. It would be tough for the Neptune kids to survive much past 300 feet or so because they would have problems with the lack of oxygen down there. If I get a chance to write a third book for Disney, I'd like to have Nere and crew have to go on a mission into the depths, and I have a hunch that certain characters will be able to deal better than others with the dark, the pressure and the lack of oxygen. Nere could breathe in fresh water, but in theory if her system has quite a bit of salt/saline in it from the sea, she might have problems adjusting to fresh water. Very few fish can go from the sea into fresh water (salmon are one of the few). Thanks for the interesting questions!
