From the time I committed to the dream of becoming a published author, it took 15 years before I didn't have to rely on outside jobs to make all my bills. (I was supporting a large family and thus had bigger bills than some people.)
The best advice I have for people who want to make a living from their writing is to live frugally!

Hi Laurie! Wintergirls is my favourite book in the world, and even inspired me to pursue a psychology degree. I'm curious, did you ever explore the idea that Lia was schizophrenic? Some parts of the book stand out to me, in particular her hallucinations of Cassie and her dead grandmother, even before the anorexia.
