We cannot tell you why Dance Dance Dance is included in the Rat series because that would be a spoiler. Read A Wild Sheep Chase and you will understand. Then read Dance Dance Dance, it is magnificent.

The Rat is alluded to a few times in Dance Dance Dance and I believe he is mentioned by name once. Definitely, that book separates itself from the rest of the Rat trilogy, but there is still some continuity.

Dance Dance Dance is a sequel, but I wouldn't consider it part of The Rat trilogy.

"The Dolphine Hotel" is a clear link between "A wild sheep chase" and "Dance Dance Dance", and Rat was mentioned once.
