I was wondering if Assassin's Apprentice could be read as a stand alone book. I know this is the first book in a trilogy, which is in turn the first set in a series, but sometimes first books are written so they can be read by themselves. Is this one of them?

If I didn't love the writing and characters so much I could easily put this one down and read another series. By the way, if you want a good standalone first book in a series check out The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. That book holds well by itself, much more so than it's successor in the series (which is also amazing).(less)
