Well, I've been very lucky in the sense that--while I'm sure I have a few haters out there (ALL authors do)--none of them have ever contacted me. And I make it a point never to seek them out. I don't google myself or read through my reviews, etc.
I realized long ago that I honestly don't have enough time to spend on all the things I love about this job (writing, reading, replying to fan emails, etc) so why would I waste even a second on something negative?

In Keeper of the Lost Cities, was it hard to make Sophie understand that she's an elf? Because I love writing, and I'm writing a story similar to that at home for fun (Person finds out they have magical powers and goes to school for people who also do), and I'm having trouble making the person understand while still showing that this is obviously hard for them to believe. Have any tips?
