David Chau No, he didn't. He lived on to tell this story. In the beginning, it was him, 37 years old, feeling sad when he heard "Norwegian Wood". He felt the need to put the events into words in order to comprehend and understand it.

Clarice He didnt die. He probably realized, finally, at that moment that he truly has moved on from Naoko and he likes Midori.

frn In the beginning of the book, it was already set way past those events, meaning he's alive and well after all those years. Right, he was in a flight to Germany or something...
