I don't mean to come off as defensive or attempting to anger you, so I am apologizing in case I offend you. yes, the cover is different and it is a little (maybe a lot) gross, but I also think it symbolizes Gabi. It shows aspects of her that make her the person that she is. She's made up of poetry, food, smiles and laughter, eyes that see truths, a heart that loves people that are different and that can be hard to love, fashion. These are bits of Gabi just as the title says and the cover does a good job of symbolizing that.

This question proves exactly the point that Gabi's zine is making by having it as the cover. I find this cover beautiful. It's honest and vulnerable and unapologetic. I don't understand what is possibly gross about it. Because it shows an arrow-pierced heart and a skeleton? Because the front of the dress is vagina-shaped? What is so gross about those things?

There are better ways of sharing that you dislike the design. Chose your words carefully.

The book cover is a full-color representation of the cover of Gabi's zine which appears toward the end of the book. It's meant to be Gabi's vision of what she looks like through her own perception.

It just makes me think of Picaso, which emphasizes the Hispanic connection to me, even though Picaso was Spanish and not Mexican.

It's for perspective. You see her in this form and realize, that all of us are different in our own ways. This is Quintero expressing her feelings.

The cover is what made me curious about this book. I think it's wonderful.

Gross? First of all, you sound 12. And it is called "ART".

I too am just reading this book. I was completely turned off by the cover; it freaks me out and I was worried that the book would be too weird! I loved the book from the moment I started listening to it (the narrator is awesome); I love Gabi! I would have probably read it sooner with a different cover and I try not to look at it in my car!

I like the answers, but I agree with you, Jen. It turns off my high school students.
