I want to put it down after a few pages every time I pick it up, the writing never pulls me in, the descriptions are excessive, and the characters seem to exist solely for the purpose of presenting their life philosophies to Lin.

I've tried to understand this issue as well; I think the book is just divisive, a love it or hate it novel. (less)
