What was the most difficult part about getting your first book published? And if you had it over, would you do something differently?

Well, the fact that my first book was about Jesuits in space didn't exactly help! Getting turned down by 31 agencies was awful and I probably should have given up, but ultimately it worked out. The Sparrow will be reissued with a 20th anniversary edition next year.

I have just finished your Sparrow series and it was one of the best I have read. Congratulations. As an avid reader since childhood I have only been "sucked into" a few series. These books rank up there with Ted Dekker "Circle" series as intelligent and captivating characters that I couldn't wait to see how their lives would end up. My grandfather was an iron ore miner in Marquette at the time of your book, "Women of the Copper Country". This is my book club book for next week. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and felt deeply involved in the history. How much research did you do in producing the material? Have you been to Calumet?
