Thank you for your message and your kind words about "Between Shades of Gray!" In addition to my extended family's connection to the history I was compelled to write the novel to give voice to those who would never have a chance to tell their story. Lithuania was Soviet occupied for fifty years and during that time it was difficult for people to openly speak about their experience in Siberia. My greatest hope is that after finishing the novel readers will research the time period and history on their own.

I loved 'Between Shades of Gray' and I'm impatiently waiting for 'Salt to the Sea' (I ordered a huge amount of books so delivery will take long...) my question is: did you base your stories on any particular real story from someone? like did you interview people and gathered stories....? :)
