Allison asked Lurlene McDaniel:

How do you stay inspired while writing? I want to be an author, but everytime I start a project, I get bored of it and stop writing. I just feel like the story took a horrible turn and it just drags on.. Also, when you're writing do you start from the beginning or do you start with one specific event and then build from there and figure out the details with how it starts and builds up to that point?

Lurlene McDaniel I'm a "linear" writer. I start at the beginning every time with each book. However, I never begin a book unless I know ihow it will end. I also start with a character/characters (like the 3 friends in YEAR OF LUMINOUS LOVE) and give each character something important that she/he wants. And conflicts to interfer with them getting what they want. If you get bored with a project it's often b/c you haven't given enough thought into plotting, conflict, and character development. Love your story and your characters and keep them focused on their goals and desires. Best of luck...writing is hard work, but oh so rewarding!
